Got a chance to try the Bun Bo Hue at Ngoc Mai today (Hyde btwn Geary & O’Farrell). Very tasty and generous portion. Asked for no pork blood and the young & friendly waitress asked if I wanted no pig’s foot too (very cute). The soup came with just the right amount of condiments (mint, shoots, & lime) and contained a combination of beef, pork, sausage, and of course pig’s foot. The broth was also great, making this my favorite BBH in SF.
Also was able to score a half-order of the spring rolls which came with the most tender wrappers I have ever come across.
Price seemed a bit high at first glance for a hole-in-the-wall, but the portions were large and very fresh. And the Y&FW also provided extra napkins without even asking (pay attention Vietnamese House)! Another bonus was that I was able to get my left over broth plus enough extra to make a full quart for $1.
