Here we go...a sobe institution or institution food?

It had been a long while for me. The family all voted on it and who was I to fight the family?

First they stuck us in the back by the bathrooms due to our large party. My response...why do people go to the News, to see and be seen - it's certainly not for the food! I had the host reseat us outside - front and center. My big sis was a little mortified, but hey it's Ocean Drive who wants to be stuck inside by the bathrooms when the scene is outside on the street?

Having eaten there so many times over the years I actually looked forward to my old standbys. I split a Cobb with Mom that was, I can't beleive I'm going to say this, phenomenal! We then split the Penne with Fresh Tomatoes, EVO, Garlic and Basil. Now we all know "al dente" is not an option at the News and of course they lived up to that, but those simple ingredients just come together so well that I was able to overlook the al dente thing and enjoy it just like the olden days!

My sis did that Mid-East Salad, not to be confused with the mid-east combo. That dish is always done well. The chix/goat chz paninis my other guests ate got accolades, as did the veggy sandwich my niece ate.

We finished things off with a Chocolate fondue which is really a signature dessert for them as I know of no other place where one can get it. Next time I will be sure to specify just Strawberries and Bananas as melons , pineapples and pound cake don't do the trick as the other aforementioned fruits.

Throw the visuals into the equation and it was all in all a nice experience. The server, Reggie, was at the top of his game.

With such an extensive menu and so many servers, I know there has got to be plenty of feedback out there on this sobe institution. So, let's hear it!
