Newport: REAL Eggs Benedict

Chris | Feb 4, 2002 11:31 AM

I'm celebrating a special birthday at the end of February with someone whose all-time favorite breakfast is authentic Eggs Benedict, with Canadian bacon (not ham) and real Hollandaise (not cheese sauce or some other substitute). I usually oblige by making it myself. However, this year, we'll be in a Newport hotel with no kitchen facilities. We tried 4th Street Diner once, and while their breakfasts are generally good, they use cheese sauce for Eggs Benedict. I've heard that Poor Richard's and the Ocean Breeze Cafe offer this item, and I'm wondering which might be the better of the two, or whether there's another place that offers real Eggs Benedict. Quality and authenticity are more important in this case than ambience, so a hole in the wall type place is fine if it can serve up the goods. Web sites offering restaurant info are sadly lacking in any inclusion of really good breakfast spots. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
