As per the development of boutique gourmet food shops on North[along with ubiquitous clothing boutiques(ooh! Italian!...pttht!)] there's that newish Cheese/ Wine place: A friend and I wandered in on the heels of a suitably yuppie family of 4(I swear sweaters wrapped around shoulders, preppie pastels...kit AND kaboodle). There was no one else in the small room. This family(all of age, I assume) were immediately offered samples from the several wines on prominent display. My friend and I made a thorough perusal of the store including lingering over the cheese case. Not word one passed the proprietor's lips in way of greeting. I could've spoken up, but the whole experience was very awkward. We were in the store long enough to ascertain that the family was just off the street i.e. not close-family or friends. I'm generally the sort of patron that eschews overly-attentive retail service. However, when I notice others offered blandishments and samples to the complete erasure of my shopping companion and I, offense is taken. I won't be back.
