Got to JK'S Wine Bar at about 8:30 (four of us) Saturday and was told it would be 11/2 to 2 hours for a table. So we hoped back into the cab and drovr to Nectar. Had heard and read decent reviews so wanted to give it a try. Very cool place, a mixed age crowd and great looking wait and bar staff, however our waiter upsold the whole night. Menu is very interesting as each dish comes in a multiple of preparations. Waiter asked what type of water we wanted-flat or with gas. I personlly prefer tap but the wife likes the bubbles so the waiter brought a bottle of perrier ($6.00) and I swear refilled my glass every time a took a sip. By the time we ordered our dinner, he, without us asking or being asked had already started pouring bottle number 2. Shared lobster croquettes and the cavaltini with bro-in law-both were average. My sister had never tried frois gros so she decided to try the app. The waiter recomended she have a glass of Sautern-she declined, however he almost insisted that her app would not tbe complet without it. So gave to the pressure-the frois was lousy, greasy and miele and she didn't like the wine, however it was $14.00. Had the lamb 3 ways for dinner. Small chop, a couple slices of loin and some braised shoulder. Looked great, tasted good however it was tiny. Had some frite and onion ring sides which were pretty good. I have a decent size wine collection and although I'm no sommelier-I do know a bit. Started with a Coppola Zin (reasonable at $65) however bro-in-law wanted something a little full boddied for #2 . Waiter overheard us talking so he decided to offer some unsolicited advice. He recommended two California Cabs-one $150 the other $160, abordeaux for $180 and the brunello for $220. JudGing by whAt we started with he should have known there was no way we were spending that much on #2. I decided on the Liberty School-California Cab- a decent wine for $75. Dessert was the tasting platter which was really good. All in all-with tip and tax $288/couple. With cab and baby-sitter, almost $400. Way over priced-way over rated and a restaurant I will never return to.
