Had a good time today chowing down on lots of food. There are the usual state fair booths but we skipped those in favor of the Big Pig Jig (Sat only). I admit defeat. I could not even begin to taste all of the 24 entries. Especially since many of the booths were also giving out hush puppies, banana pudding, chocolate pie--the list goes on and on.
We also ate at the Great Carolina Food Bizarre (not a spelling error). For two dollars each, they were offering up items such as Hole Hog "doughnut holes with local pig parts filling" and Dante's Internals, "spicy chicken livers deep fried and served with "Scorched Earth" dipping sauce".
A resounding yes vote for the Hole Hog; much like little balls of pork mush on a tooth pick. A equally resounding no vote for the pimento cheese ice cream topped with pork rinds. I couldn't finish that one. But, A fun place to snack.
Since we were way full at that point, we are saving the Expo Building for tomorrow. According to the web site, "North Carolina food companies, breweries and wineries will be sampling and selling some of the most delightful flavors North Carolina has to offer." I gave up counting, but there are at least fifty offering everything from pickled beets to bacon pralines. Neese is listed with their souse and liver pudding (my favorites). I assume it will be like a bigger version of the tasting tent at the state fair.
Anyway, we enjoyed walking around taking in the sights (don't miss the antique tractor parade at one o'clock).
