national bakery closed?

ks | Mar 12, 2005 07:33 PM

I stopped by National Bakery on National and Rose (right next door to Simpang Asia, across the street from Indo Cafe and El Nopal) this morning to pick up a couple croissants - these are the best in west LA in my opinion, buttery, tender, flaky... But the bakery was definitely, ominously shut with newspaper covering the windows.

Anyone have any news on what happened? Is it closed for good? Did the owner/baker move somewhere else? I picked up some food at Simpang Asia a couple weeks ago and I don't remember seeing the bakery look shut down, but it's been a while since I bought croissants there.
