my friend who works at montefiore medical center recommended this place and i thought i'd pass it on--it's a tiny bakery with slices of cake with thick goopy dressing in the display case. it's not somewhere i would've stopped, but my friend recommended their guava and cheese pies. pastry was not too sweet, and the guava nice and tangy. and they have a great, strong spanish coffee--smooth and not too acidic. i also tried a meat pie, which looked tantalizing (nice puffy puff pastry) but it was soggy and the pastry too sweet (didn't work well with the layer of intensely flavored meat).

so if you happen to be near montefiore, check this place out.
