Get your nasty thumb off my plate! And... smokers, wash your damn hands!

Having moved to O'ahu from the Midwest where the "finger/thumb on my plate" occurred at almost every sit-down restaurant, I see it here too. I have a theory about this although it is not politically correct. But then again, I am far from politically correct. Here goes. People, servers, take your nasty thumb off my plate. Learn how to serve that salad plate NOT with your thumb on the eating surface and or in my salad. Same goes for your fingers. Seriously, learn some class... learn how to handle a beverage glass without touching the rim. Learn how to serve plates and bowels without having to touch the food surface. And while I am at it... at almost every Red Lobster I have ever visited I witness (ladies mostly) the servers with the tray of plates/food up on their shoulders.... HAIR touching my food! I witnessed this each and every time I have visited any Red Lobster in the Midwest. Here on O'ahu I have experienced such bad servers.... thumbs on plates, fingers in food, or my favorite... the smoker who returns to break and fails to wash his or her hands. I used to own several restaurants both franchise and mom-n-pop types. I slowly got rid of all the known smokers. I refused to hire smokers and still do to this day although I am in a different type of business. It was/is my personal experience that smokers take too many breaks which is unfair to the non-smokers. Typically they are less productive, smoke on the clock, and almost always fail to wash their hands. Nothing irritates me more than witnessing a smoker return to work from behind the store or parking lot and proceeding directly back to work.. handling my salad mix, dinner rolls, flatware, or sometimes rearranging food on the plates.....
