Took the whole week off and went to Napa on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday was Copia and Robert Modavi's Winery, lunch at Mustards and dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni.
Copia was wonderful, a food and wine museum, it had variety of food releated seminars and food releated exhibits. We tood their orientation tour (30 min) which was a waste of time. Later we figured out the center isn't that big and we could easily have figured out all the stuff on our own. We attended a wine and cheese pairing seminar where we were given a small glass of white wine and a small cube of cheese and we sat and listened to a small lecturer on how to pair wine and cheese.
Currently, there is a tea pot art collections on display. Some very whimsical and amazing "art" made into tea pots.
Also there was a food facts interactive exhibit of sort where one can go through answer questions, push buttons, touch screens, throughly engaging and fun for us.
We could have stayed longer and saw more of Copia but we had lunch reservation at 1pm at Mustards.
Mustards was excellent. Not feeling hungry we opted more for the sandwiches than large entrees. My seared ahi tuna sandwich with basil aioli was meltingly tender, my husband's Niman Ranch cheese buger was juicy and beefy and our friend's stuff quail with wide mushroom tamale and celery root slaw was also a hit.
Not having been to Napa for a long time we decided to take Robert Modavi winery tour (90 min -$10) It was a very very very hot day Monday, and so the tour was slightly uncomfortable going through some of the outdoor stuff. However, we feel it was informative and gave a good overview of the whole winery process and at the end they gave us a three wine tasting.
Dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni was delicious! But it didn't start out right. They lost my reservation and was going to make us sit outside in the sun. At my husband's instance, we waited for an inside table and was seated 30 minutes later. I had the saffron risotto with grilled shrimp. My weakness for risotto almost always compell me to order risotto when available. I was not disappointed. My risotto was creamy without being overly rich, the aroma of saffron really came through with every bite, bits of baby peas and diced carrots also provide some crunch. Four large perfectly seasoned prawns topped of my risotto.
My husband had the Main crab pasta. That dish was also a major hit. Lots of crab and fresh herbs accompanied freshly made pasta, toothsome and flavorful, we could have ordered another bowl!
Despite the initial blunder, the restaurant's food really made up for it. We would definitaly go back.
