Which are Napa & Sonoma's finest low-key wineries to visit?

Friends and I made a memorable trip to the Santa Ynez Valley last year. Our finest experience was late in the day at Andrew Murray. We were the only people there, the hilltop vineyards and tasting room were perfect and I met a nice dog. I'm hoping to have a similar experience in NoCal. At the end of a mid-March day that will include visits to some grander operations, I'd like to take my friends to a smaller winery, probably a producer of more elegant, understated red and white wines, where we can relax for an hour or two. The Russian River area or another especially lovely place would be best.

I am fond of sauvignon blanc, pinot noir and syrah, less so of chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. I've been thinking that it would be fun to visit a producer of bubbly wines. Is Schramsberg groovy?
