After a lovely and too short time in San Francisco, we headed up to Napa.
Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen - fantastic meal. Three of us split the pork shank special. 20 oz. of pork with polenta and greens. It was huge and unbelievably tender. We also ordered the Caesar salad, pollo loco and French onion soup. I'm blanking on dessert but we enjoyed everything.
V. Sattui picnic - meh. Overdressed beats, overcooked seafood salad, decent sandwiches and indifferent service. Grounds were pretty though.
Kitchen Sink at the Oxbow Market - we had fun walking through the market and ended up here for dinner. It was food and perfect for what we were looking for. Singapore noodles with shrimp and pork was surprisingly delicious, chicken pho hit the spot, burger was spot on and we all enjoyed the Kalbi.
Bouchon lunch - fantastic. Quail special was out of this world: deboned quail stuffed with liver, coated with potato flakes and fried. Mussels were perfectly cooked and plump and the bone marrow was quickly eaten.
Bouchon Bakery - macarons. I never got the hype. Now I do. I preferred the pistachio over the bananas foster.
Bistro Don Giovanni - another great meal. Tricolor salad was fresh and delicious although a tad overdressed. We split three homemade pastas: linguini with clams (excellent with tons of clams), lamb pappardelle (tad salty), orchecciete with rabe (the most perfect little ears). Butterscotch pudding was out of this world and we also gobbled down then trifle. Service was exemplary.
Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch - so happy I detoured here for lunch. Arugula salad with persimmons and pomegranate seeds and grilled artichokes were a great way to start the meal. We also loved the chili and the slow cooked eff with mushrooms and polenta. The two specials were also great: Reuben and seafood ciopinno with half a crab.
