This is the same owner as the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant which I like a lot. I like this better because there is lots of space, a more extensive menu and large windows that look out on the river. It was very relaxing staring out at the rain, sipping sparkling wine and noshing on some excellent smoked trout mousse ... very good ... light with excellent smoked trout flavor.
I thought there would be an online menu, so didn't pay close attention to what was being served. There were a number of cheese plates from the Oxbow Cheese Merchant which shares the room. I remember there was tomato soup today and mac and cheese.
There's a big wine counter in the center of the room with about 20 seats. Another 20 seats line the windows. There are two large communal tables and three four tops. There seems to be a little room off to the side that could be used for a small party of about 10. In nicer weather it looks like there is patio seating.
They have a new wine profile system that I like very much. There was a recent topic about this on Chowhound
Tim Hanni MW - The Wine Antisnob in the WSJ
I haven't liked what I've seen to date because there is not much more information than wine lists by type.
However, the wine merchants profile is helpful to me and something I'll actually use to make a decision about wine and frees me up from relying on a knowledgable wine staff.
For each wine type ... white, red, pink, tawny sparkling ... there is a profile with a range of values. It just might work for me. Here's the details
There were about four or five draft beers on tap. There is some sort of special of a taste of tawny port with three Michael Recchiuti chocolates.
