Napa (Oxbow Market) - The Oxbow Cheese Merchant

rworange | Jan 31, 200806:53 PM

Located along two walls in the same room as The Oxbow Wine Merchant, there is a nice selection of cheese and a very helpful and knowledgable staff.

They provide cheese for the cheese plates at the wine bar. There's also a good selection of olives.

From my understanding there is a connection to Cowgirl Creamery, so I would guess they have the same cheeses available.

What I bought was Sierra Mountain Tomme which is made on a biodynamic farm with a limited production. I liked it a lot. Here's a SF Chronicle article about it.

I forgot to ask how many years the Boorenkaas aged gouda was ... well, aged, but it is lovely right now whatever its birthdate. with pleasant crunchy salt crystals.

I really liked the creamy Irish Cashel Blue too.

I was tempted by the Bubalus Bubalis California water buffalo mozzarella ... but next time.

Nice shop. Not the largest selection in the Bay Area, but well-chosen.
