Well we have just firmed up our travel plans for our annual post-Thanksgiving week-end trek to Tofino.
This year we plan to spend a couple of nites in Nanaimo.
We do not know Nanaimo at all as we usually are just passing through it en route to or from Departure Bay or Victoria.
Any recommendations for dining?
We prefer "West Coast" interesting fare or bistro styled food to fried this or that and are not particularly interested in Asian cuisine.
Price is not a big issue but prefer casual to dress up but from past experience that should not be an issue on the Island. Nice wine list would be a plus.
Despite the comment about Asian food I have read good things about the Blue Ginger.
Acme has also been recommended at another site by "Tofino".
We will be staying near Departure Bay and would prefer not to drive so am not interested in spots in Parksville, Qualicum, etc..
That having been said I might be tempted to head south toward the Duncan/Cowichan area if anyone can recommend some of the Island's wineries to visit. One year when we missed the ferry to Horseshoe Bay we did go to Vignetti Zanatta but have not been to any of the others.
Travelling in the Fall may mean some spots are not open or are on restricted hours. We'll be there the 15th and 16th of October.
