The Mystery of the Village Fish

L2k | Aug 26, 201104:35 AM

A restaurant I've been fond of ever since it first opened in Brookline, even took my current wife there on our first date. Followed it to Needham, where it wasn't as crowded, maybe a little less comfortable, but still tasty (and you couldn't beat their early bird!)

Last week, in another thread here, it was reported to be closed. Drive bys didn't prove anything, although the sign was still up. Discussion with a local resident told me that the owners were closing down and reopening "in time for football season" as a BBQ-Sports Bar joint, had gotten a smoker, were adding tv's, etc, which I reported here in the August closings/openings thread.

Was walking in the neighborhood last night, could see folks seated inside, signs still say Village Fish, so we went in. Place looks the same, other than they've enclosed the formerly open kitchen in the back left. Menu was the same. Staff appeared to be the same.

We were in a hurry, so couldn't ask anyone (and DW thought I was odd enough that I would walk in and look at a menu when I had no interest in dining -- anymore would have brought on the wrath).

What gives?
