Mystery Seed question

Second Ave Deli in NYC has intense-tasting black seeds on top of its rye bread. The woman at the counter was sure they were caraway seeds, but the seeds on top look and taste very different than the caraway seeds in the bread. Could these be black sesame seeds? Or are they something more exotic? I could swear I knew what these were a few years ago.
