Vital Information's (shouldn't that name be Vittle Information?) mention of Bulgarian food reminded me of something. There used to be a Romanian grocery on Irving with a storefront next to it called (honestly) Red Egg Inc. Which sold... individually wrapped red eggs. (Early readers of Dan Clowes' Eightball will recall that this was one of the wonders of Chicago he celebrated, which didn't stop him moving to San Francisco.)
I guess I don't even know that the red eggs were Romanian, I'm just assuming that the two were connected. Anybody have any idea what was up with the red eggs and from which community there was enough demand to support an entire business devoted to them?
