Mystery chinese food question -- What the heck did I eat ?

JR2015 | Jan 11, 201510:48 AM     26

I am not very familiar with Chinese cuisine but I like to try new things. I recently went to a local (Los Angeles area) Chinese restaurant and ordered "Mongolian Pork Chops" for lunch but I think I was served the wrong dish. I was with someone and did not want to make a scene (the food was not terrible) but now I would like to know what was I served... It was a pile of small chopped-up chunks of an unknown cut of pork with lots of attached bone pieces, each about the size of half my thumb (from tip to first knuckle) or smaller. The pork had been fried so hot that some (but not all) of the fat had become crispy. It was all in a sauce that tasted a lot like maple pancake syrup. There were some very thin slivers of something white (it might have been onion but I didn't taste onion at all) mixed in the sauce also. Any idea what I ate?

PS: The restaurant served many "types" of Chinese food including Szechuan and Mandarin if that helps.
