Why does San Diego lack a good French bistro? You know the kind I'm talking about--zinc bar, chalkboard menu, Edith Piaf, cassoulet and moules frites. Many less interesting restaurant towns have great bistros (Phoenix, par example). What's up with SD?
I know that there are some bistro-ish places (La Vache, Tapenade) and some high-end spots (Milles Fleurs), but none that put together the whole "bistro" package, that je ne sais quoi that transports you to Paris.
Cafe Chloe (which I love) is closest by default, but it has really created its own sort of style, with hints of bistro.
