Mysterious Closing of Lower Manhatten Jamaican

epicure-us | Feb 27, 2002 05:13 PM

Does anyone know when and why Yummy Crust (on upper Nassau Street near Pace University) closed? Last week I had to turn back when I found the store dark with a red "for rent" sign in the window. I had only eaten there 3 times and had counted on many return visits. In fact, I was planning to bring a friend there this week. They were generally crowded for lunch, so I was surprised at the closing. Maybe the owner will take a stab at another restaurant. Actually, I vaguely recall some reference to another location . . .

Their rice and peas, plantains and cabbage combo plate had heat, succulence, nutrition and great value. Golden Crust is more expensive and their sides haven't impressed me enough--although their vege pattie is often great. There are lots of vege options in the nabe, including Alfamoos, but I'm still bummed about losing Yummy.

All leads appreciated.

Thanks. Stephanie
