After getting hungry shopping at 99 Ranch Market on Walnut & Jeffrey today, I spied the Soft Tofu restaurant across the parking lot. I had dreams of that really expensive Japanese restaurant in LA that serves tofu skin & other delicacies... on a cheaper & closer basis. It turned out if was Korean and was... interesting - we ordered the transparent noodles & vegetables for one of the kids, which was all one dish & good, the tofu & beef soup which was ok - tons of soft tofu & the stone rice suggested by another patron. Received the stone rice bowl with rice taken out & crispy stuff left - followed directions to pour in a glass of water & stir, then got some of that good crunchy stuff up, a cold onion & bok choy (?) in red liquid, 2 small bowls of rice, 2 small fried fish, a bowl of what was a cross between potato & waldorf salad, a bowl of sweetish red sauce with an after-kick - I liked this, a bowl of vegetables & some totally unidentifiable stuff on top of another mound of rice in another stone bowl. This was good when mixed with the red sauce. I had no idea of what I was eating & wish I had a translator there to guide us. Think we entertained the whole restaurant, though. I thought about stopping at the Konjac place afterwards, but glad we didn't after the Tuck's description below.
