I'm wondering if anybody has a favorite place to buy sea scallops and mussels in Chicago, preferably on the north side, which is most convenient to me. I've bought them at the Whole Foods on Ashland, and was really dismayed when I seared them up and they leaked out all the liquid that is the hallmark of "wet-pack" scallops ... I was told by somebody at the Chopping Block that Whole Foods would sell dry-pack scallops! Would the Fish Guy be worth a trip for this? What about Dirk's?
Same goes for suggestions for mussels ... I've not yet bought these at all for home use but love the classic preparation with wine and cream ... don't want a poor-quality mussel to ruin my first attempt!
