Muskrat as fish?

berkleybabe | Mar 20, 2001 09:55 PM

Any other cities designated muskrat as fish as the Detroit area did? In the depresssion/down time, fish for lent was expensive. The church hierachy determined muskrat, which lived most of the time in water, was "fish" for that period. Thus, a lot of muskrat dinner s (don't know if they were actually like fish fries.) This seems a wonderful solution to a theological/dietary challenge. Any body else know of this? Or any other similar stories?
