MSP - Speaking of burgers...Meritage

I ate lunch at Meritage last week. Figured I HAD to get the burger given recent discussion of the topic on this board, and the fact that the menu item featued its own bordered box section of the lunch menu.

I was at first going to order the three couse prix fixe with the sandwich du jour. On the chalkboard inside, the sandwich was listed as corned beef with... Our server, however, said it was a "corned beef hash" sandwich., did a double take, looked down at her notes, and repeated "corned beef hash sandwich." So, I guess, part of the reason I went with the burger was due to the ambiguity concerning the sandwich du jour.

A bit of a disappointment, unfortunately. The description had it served with lettuce, tomato, emmathaler cheese, and an aioli of some kind. Ordered it medium (not medium rare cuz I'm just a wee bit paranoid about e-coli). But this was cooked beyond medium, and somewhat dired out. I did not send it back because I was on a limited time schedule, and things were slow enough as it was (a weekday lunch takes over an hour???).

Was also disappointed in the pomme frites. Meritage has received some props on this board for its fries, but mine were glistening with grease, and about one-fourth to one-third of them were limp. Don't like my fries that way. And while my dining companion had bearnaise sauce served with the fries, I just had ketchup. But she got mussels so maybe that put the fries in a higher league.

I had plans for Brasa, then switched at the last minute to Meritage. Will probably pick Brasa next time.
