Someone posted a few weeks ago that the old Chi Chi's building at 494 and Nicollet was being turned into a 400 seat Chinese restauarant ("better than a chinese restaurant being turned into a Chi Chi's!" someone quipped. Amen!)
The place opened last Monday. Its called Jun Bo.
I had to go to the Menard's next door on Saturday night, so I stepped in to take a look. I picked up a menu next to the front desk and flipped through it and saw that it was full of the most prosaic "Lemon Chicken" ($11.95!?) school of American-style "Chinese" items. "What th'!?" says I. The place had loads of Chinese people dining there. Then the hostess greeted some people coming in and let them know that they had two menus: American style and traditional style. Ahhhhh! OK! The "traditional" menu (identical cover marked with a different colored dot) had more promising looking items like Hot Pots and BBQ.
She said that they have Dim Sum every day, with cart service from 10AM to 2PM, and dim sum items available for order at other times (I didn't see the dim sum menu, if they have one).
At 8PM Saturday they had a lot of hungry-looking people milling about being told it would be about a half hour wait. There appeared to be quite a few empty tables--the place is huge. Hopefully they will get their act together after they have been in operation for a while.
Didn't try any food, so no review of the chow yet.
They have a separate entrance take-out operation, and a full bar.
