Kathie Jenkins was raving about Cara Cara oranges in the Pioneer Press a month or so ago (though, I can't seem to find her piece on the PP website now) and I keep seeing posts about them on other Chowhound branches, http://www.chowhound.com/topics/362814 so I picked some up at Lunds in Highland Park/St. Paul the other day. They were good, though, I confess, I didn't think they were the most amazing thing ever. I found them rather hard to peel (I'm too lazy to be a "real" chowhound as I'm frequently deterred by hassle) and not super juicy. I've seen people describe them as having overtones of berries, which I didn't taste until it was suggested to me, and then, yeah, I thought, these do have a slight berry taste, at the expense of a strong orange taste. Anyway, it was fun to try.
I've also seen chowhounds in other parts of the country looking for blood orange juice. I don't know if anyone in the Twin Cities is looking for it, but I noticed they have it in the fridge case at Spoonriver. I didn't try it, so I can't vouch for it, but, just FYI.
