mozzarella in poughkeepsie (rossi's)

i'd been looking for a real good fresh mozzarella in dutchess county. i was spoiled from having so many out-of-this-world homemade mozz places when i lived in hoboken, and was disappointed with what i found up here.

the best of the rest were roma deli (poughkeepsie) and joe's marketplace on route 9. if you wanted individual mozz at joe's, you had to buy a ball (3/4-1 lb.), nothing smaller. ok, but i was looking for better.

rossi's in poughkeepsie (south clover, near the very old houses which are on the north side of rte 44/55 and 9, hidden back) has a much smaller supply of 'other' italian items (though they had a diverse selection of frozen raviolis) than joe's, but their mozz was wonderful. and the smaller pieces (not the bite size ones) were 1/8 of a lb. - perfect for testing.

i prefer my mozz a little salty and milky, so i took it home, soaked it in milk and a little salt, and it tasted nearly as good as what i remembered from hoboken. and better than the other places.

just like pizza, i realize that everyone has different opinions on things like mozzarella...just wanted to let ppl know of this new (to me, been around a while) place i found.

and they're not open on sundays...
