Moving to CT/South of Hartford -- Need Advice

Paul Michael | Feb 14, 2002 08:00 PM

Okay, here's the deal. Bottom line: my wife and I are relocating to CT from San Francisco. I know, I know, we're nuts, but my wife is doing a fellowship in Farmington and we've got family in the east so... We've decided to sacrifice good weather and food in exchange for being closer to relatives.

I'll probably end up working in Stamford or New Haven but I don't want my wife commuting more than 20 minutes to Farmington, so we're looking to rent a house somewhere south of Farmington. Does anyone have suggestions on quaint towns south of Farmington but not far from the 91 or other arteries down to New Haven and Norwalk, Stamford? We're thinking about Southbury maybe? We had dinner there last night -- had THE BEST tilapia fish dinner ever -- at a place off Center street called AJ's or something -- newish.

Anyways, any and all suggestions would be VERY HELPFUL! Ideal is a smallish, somewhat quaint town, low crime, quiet, older Main Street, etc. Any gems hiding in Central Connecticut? We're at our wits end.
