Moving to Church Avenue!!!

JackS | Dec 6, 2004 12:46 PM

I will be leaving Boerum Hill and moving to Kensington/Prospect Park South/Ditmas/Flatbush . . . well, I don't know what the name is, but the Church Ave/Coney Island Ave vicinity. I'm pretty excited about the chow options I've had so far, ranging from Nio's, the great Trinidadian roti place at Church and Rogers, to the Bangladeshi restaurants over at McDonald Avenue. In between, there appear to be a great variety of Guyanese, Jamaican, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Polish, and Russian venues. I was wondering what recommendations anyone had for the area. (I'm equally excited about proximity to the Coney Island Avenue chow corridor, although the food I like the best there -- Bahar, Bukhara, Famous Pita, Olympic Pita -- starts well South of Church and not within walking distance).

One recommendation I can reiterate that I've posted about previously is Taquerias Poblano, on Church and East 8th Street. I've had simple, delicious tacos al pastor there in the past and went there again this weekend after working on the new place. I had a cemita al pastor that knocked my socks off -- hunks of pork with cheese, a slice of avocado, and cilantro on a toasted bun and with a spicy kick. We also had a mole verde soup, a spicy green-chili soup. Yum!
