My wife is crazy about this strange bread they've been selling at Beard Papa/Mousse Fantasy on Sawtelle: it's thickly sliced bread studded with mochi, red beans, green soy beans, chestnuts, and who knows what else.
The result is a soft, slightly sweet, slightly stretchy and sticky mass of carbs and protein. I haven't seen anything quite like it at other Japanese bakeries--there's chestnut bread, bean bread, etc. but nothing with quite this intensity.
This morning, walking back to my car from Nijiya market, I noticed that the nutrition bread and other fresh breads and pastries were missing from their usual space against the wall. Not clear if it's coming back.
Has anyone seen something like this elsewhere? Cynaburst is out of town for an extended period right now, but I'd love to be able to get it for her when she returns.
