another peach question:
i have been buying mine the last few weeks at the farmers' market (new york city--union square). some july peaches were great and i had a good experience with less than ripe local apricots earlier this summer. they were hard at first but softened to various stages of the edible scale after 3-6 days (ok to delectible). however, the peaches are another story. More often than not they are hard initially, but as they stay out to ripen they get moldy too. is it a question of how they are stored after being picked? or of whether they are 'tree-ripened'?
so, what to do? i like buying at the market. however, the soft fruit produce seems pretty similar as far as i can tell. i have tried different vendors--but it doesn't seem to make a difference. maybe it is a function of the wet weather we have been having in the northeast.
maybe the grapes will be better this year.
appreciate your help.
