The spot next to Antonio's pizza has had "coming soon" signs up for months now, and I've been looking forward to some decent middle eastern food in Amherst. Drove by tonight and saw the place had finally opened so I went in to check it out. They have renovated the room to look very nice, but it's low on seating, or perhaps seating is poorly organized. There are 4 tables, all 4-tops, so anyone dining alone or as a couple has to take a whole table up. I saw a number of people come in and look for a seat while I was there. It's a small space, but their layout does not help. Room looks great though.
Service seemed to still be working out kinks - nothing went wrong with our meal, but everyone seemed a bit stressed and confused Still, it seemed like things were going well, they have only been open for a few days and were clearly busy and had had repeat customers. A bartender who worked across the street at Amherst Brewing came in for a takeout sandwich and joked he was addicted and had been coming all the time.
Our food was nothing outstanding - chicken kabob and falafel sandwiches - but were definitely good and I'm excited to stop back again and try more of the menu. I'll be curious to hear from other people who get a chance to check them out.
