My mother has decided she wants to go to a tapas place for her birthday this year. She likes the idea of "little plates" as a meal, but I don't think she's ever had authentic Spanish food... my folks are not very adventurous eaters, though they have gotten more open-minded in recent years. I can't take them anywhere too weird, divey, uncomfortable (I had thought about Tio Pol, but the stools would be problematic), crowded or loud (I'm guessing Ñ falls into this category). Aargh. Is there anyplace in Manhattan or Brooklyn that would fit the bill?
