If you were to take your mother out to sushi...

Hi All,

Over Christmas I would like to take my mother, who is an adventurous eater but new to Japanese food, to a nice sushi lunch in Japantown in SF. I'm still a sushi novice (at my local sushi joints I order by number for takeout, just so you know my level of expertise), so I'd love some recommendations from Japanese 'hounds and other sushi pros. My parameters are

1) Serves at lunchtime
2) Is in general Japantown area
3) Comfortable, clean, even elegant interior, and a place that has more comfortable seating than just hard wooden stools at the bar.
4) Does not have to be the very best or most innovative sushi, but rather an emphasis on freshness and beautiful presentation.
5) Can be expensive, but please not astronomical. (Meaning $50 per person for lunch is about the ceiling.)

I know, I can be so demanding! Really, I'd like to take her to a nice sushi restaurant, but one where she won't be frowned on by the waitstaff for not knowing what anything means in Japanese, and where she can have some good, fresh, but pretty generic sushi. Beautiful interior and very comfortable seating would be a big plus for this whole experience. My sushi haunts happen to be outside Japantown so I don't know which ones are the best bet for this kind of thing in that area. I'm asking specifically for SF Japantown, because I'd like to visit the shops before and after.

I am fully confident that the Chowhounds can help to make this a wonderful dining experience for my little mom :)
