I stopped in to see how construction is coming along and met Les, the owner of the new Smokin' Mo's BBQ. He tells me that they're aiming to open on Tuesday January 6, 2004, but it may get pushed back a week if construction isn't finished. ErikaK started the prior thread on this location, link is below.
The thought of seriously good barbecue in Orange County excites the optimist in me. The pessimist in me makes up unfounded noise about why they can't reproduce the success of their 3 upstate locations here. In any event, I'm willing to support anyone who's making a serious effort at great southern style barbecue. In that vein, you should know about the VIP party they're throwing on Sunday Jan. 4 from 4-10pm
For $200, two people get:
1) All you can eat sampling of the menu
2) All you can drink beer, wine, or soft drink
3) $100 worth of "Mo Bucks," redeemable for food and drink at any of their locations
4) A brass plaque bearing your name mounted to a table, chair, or photo of your choice in the restaurant
5) 2 tshirts and hats
6) 1 4-pack of BBQ sauce
Although I came up with reasons not to invest 2 bills into an unknown restaurant, I'm going to be there for the VIP party. Anyone else interested?
Leave a message for Les at the store if you want to go: 714-374-3033. Maybe we should ask for a section for Chowhound people? He is not set up for credit cards yet, so mail in a check or stop by in person. Also a gentle reminder to verify after the new year that the VIP party & opening dates are still on as scheduled!!

PS - if anyone out there works in construction, you may want to mention that to Les, he seems to be unhappy with his flaky contractors.
