Morte del Mercato - Tavola di Tosa RIP

Rex Gai | Feb 11, 200412:30 PM

For those of you outta da loop, as of Feb Seven, Tony & Rosa Hanslits unexpectedly closed their burgeoning & highly popular epicurean empire on Ferguson in Broad Ripple. That's the, er, tony Tavola di Tosa, a darling of foodies and corporate expensers alike, the more reasonably-priced Tosa Euro Cafe & the Bakery.

I for one am in mourning. I have a call into Rosa to find out what happened, if it's something she feels comfy in sharing. We are friends, but not bosom buds, so. And sides I wouldn't want to speak out of school on any problems they might be having. I know they, as a couple. are as solid as a rock. Tony's health has had its rocky moments, with a kidney replacement supposedly revitalizing his declining state for years. And he DId look right fine this year and last, since the surgery. But....who knows. Could it be that the dreadful economy got to even this successful joint and he just threw in the towel? I'm guessing that is a major part of the demise.

Also, and curiously, his original baby Something Different, just sent their head chef Dan Noble on his way to a downtown restaurant. And his position is temporarily filled by their sous chef, but they are looking for a permanent replacement. Hmmm. Is this karma, or fancy footwork behind the scones, or what? Keep yer eyes & spuds peeled.

See ya at the trough,
Fud
