My wife and I will be going to Morimoto next weekend for our anniversary and we are probably going to do omakase. Between pregnancy and breastfeeding, my wife has not been able to have sushi (and some types of cooked seafood) for about a year and a half. Now that she has finished nursing, we figured this would be a good time to get back on the mercury bandwagon.
So here are my questions...
If we both do omakase, do we both get the same items for each course, or will they give us different items? We would prefer the latter so we get to try many different things.
Do they make "special" items for each course (as I believe a tasting menu should) or do they just choose things right off of the regular menu?
Can we make requests for certain dishes/items to be included/not included? I know that the purpose of omakase is to trust the chef, and while my wife loves sushi, she sometimes doesn't go for some of the more "exotic" raw items.
If we can request specific dishes, are there any we should not miss?
Obviously, we will discuss all of this with our server so we're all on the same page before we start, but I like to do my research ahead of time.
