1740 w. chapman ave
I haven't seen it mentioned here but the best Mexican/Oaxacan food I've found in OC is from this little place off chapman in Orange. I'm a snob when it comes to mexican food(because of my background) and this place comes so close to having your grandmother serving it to you. The mole plate is the best I've ever had. The quesadilla's are the thick fried tortillas thatare spilling over with lettuce, queso fresco and cream.(get the tinga or rajas, 3 dollars) They also have authentic oaxcan food like tlayuda's,huaraches, chapulines(crickets, ask for them, not on menu) and others. One of my other favorite things to get there is the pambaso which is like a sandwich smothered in chorizo drippings with potato, chorizo, and cream etc. inside. 4 dollars. Get an agua too as they're from scratch and are great.
The place itself is pretty plain as can be. I guess it would be considered a hole in in the wall by some, it's not run down just small and comfortable to me. Go for lunch.
I also saw a recent write up about it in the la times about how they import their ingredients from oaxaca and were having trouble then because of the political turmoil.
