I had been wanting to dine at Mondello for about 6 months, but it never worked out until tonight. I'd been by several times to the kitchen store next door and checked out the menu and vibe. Was even turned away once when I tried to get in on short notice. Combine the waiting with knowledge that it is affiliated with Queen M Pizza, and I had high hopes.
No such luck, sorry to say. *None* of the dishes my wife and I had were good enough to bring me back. The Caesar salad we shared had almost no anchovy, was utterly devoid of acid, and sported a single crouton. It would have been a pushaway, had I not asked for a lemon wedge. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, and my wife had the Gnocchi, both of which managed to attain the feat of greasy-yet-soggy. Her dish added 'cloyingly sweet' to make it a trifecta, and my carbonara was so grimacingly clumped and salty, I *did* push it away. I was recommended a Sauvignon Blanc that was astoundingly thin and colorless. We stopped while we were behind.
The only other note of value is that the trio of young servers all seem to be professional Twitterers and only part-time servers, as they were cackling over their 4G devices *in the dining room*.
Stay far, far away. If I hadn't had a free-entree discount, I'd be mixing up a Molotov this very minute.
