One of my friends who is less obsessed with chow than the lot of us, gave me a gift certificate to Mona Lisa for my birthday last week. Since I certainly can't return this, nor do I wish to offend him when he inquires about the experience, can anyone shed some light on this North Beach eatery and recommend their best and brightest dishes? As a native San Franciscan, yes we do exist, I grew up running around North Beach, but those days are long gone and it has been some time since I last ate dinner the ole neighborhood. I fondly remember the veal dishes at the original Little Joe's, ravioli at the U.S. Restaurant, and Scampi at Vanessi's, but other than those childhood haunts, all of which have closed, moved and/or moved again, I've not added to my North Beach memories as of late. The only thing I know of Mona Lisa is that they apparently give gummy bears and amaretti at the end of the meal, so they've got that going for them...which is nice (ode to Bill Murray)
Well, I figure that, perhaps, with the proper guidance from my fellow chowhounds, I'll at least have the very best dish that they can muster.
