Thanks for all the tips everyone... Mom's 80th was this weekend. After lots of research we ended up with this weekend of events:
Hotel - The Eliot - charming and quiet. Really a treat. Located on Comm Ave. near Virgin Records. Close to Newbury St. Lots of little extras made this special.
Lunch - Fiorno (north end) - super salad and lovely homemade pasta. The eggplant was to die for.
Dinner - L'Espalier - 460.00 for 4 with wine and tip. NOISY, CROWDED and our food was never served hot. The wait staff appeared stressed. I could not talk to my Mom who was across the table (4 top)unless I yelled....I did love the dessert and bread. Our bread server and waiter were delightful. But for the price I would have expected more attention. After our app we didn't see him for 15 -20 min. and I had to get up and collect our wine bottle off the bread table to serve us. We asked two times for a second soda for my child and two times for a vase to water Mom's roses. If I paid half the price I still would feel it was overpriced ...but hey, sometimes one pays for the name.
I felt the setting was pretty drab and boring French Provincial. The flower at our table was wilted..picky picky ya?? Well, hell I felt I should have had a more 5 star experience considering what I expected. On the positive side, they were very attentive to my cousin's dietary constraints. And again, our waiter was really nice.
Breakfast - Bob The Chefs (South End)- SUPER brunch with amazing jazz and soul food..I cannot eat for a week. The sweet potato pie was amazing and the staff was very attentive and friendly. They sang a jazzy rendition of Happy Birthday to Mom. It was soo much fun.
Isabella Gardner Museum - SIMPLY amazing..
Well, again, thanks for your tips..and ideas. And happy b day Mom.
