Momofuku - Noodle Bar. My first time

Pat Hammond | Mar 20, 201206:57 AM

Last week I went for lunch. I've been dying to go for a long time. Lunch was a perfect initiation, about 12:30, no wait, sat at the bar so we could watch our food being prepared. We shared each dish, but still came away feeling satisfied. We started with the baby beet salad. It was fun watching the painstaking arrangement of tiny beets, greens and ricotta. There were some hazelnuts sprinkled in there too. They have a grilled octopus salad too, a reason to go back soon.

HAD to have the pork buns, two to a serving. We ate them slowly savoring every porky bite . Hoisin sauce gave a sweet accent.

Last we had the spicy chicken Ramen (big) bowl. I'd never had such perfectly cooked ramen, crispy morsels of chicken and delicious broth, with a little kick of heat. It was salty, but not overly so. Just great!

We didn't want beer or wine, but they have nice selections of both. I was surprised to the see Moxie as a non-alcoholic option. As a native Mainer it was fun to see the "official" soft drink of that state featured. That's what I ordered. It came in a glass bottle and the slightly medicinal flavor "paired" well with my meal.

We stopped in at Milk Bar afterwards for a slice of aptly named "Crack Pie". A thin slice of salty/ sweet, sticky, caramel-like filling in a cookie crust.

I know this is old hat to many of you, but now I know what all the fuss has been about!
