Motoring along the Gravenstein Highway on my way to a dinner at Korbel yesterday, I remembered that a new branch of Mombo's had opened 5 weeks ago. A couple slices at the Santa Rosa location had been promising but too shopworn to show as well as they should. Now it was 6pm, prime time for getting something fresh. Since I was ahead of schedule, I decided to stop for a slice, rationalizing that it would be a long while before I'd be back at the right time of day and that I could skip the hors d'oeurves at dinner. The menu's the same here in a cleaner and somewhat larger spot. There are a few tables outside too.

A cheese pie was just coming out of the oven when I got to the head of the line to ring up $2.70 with tax for a plain slice. Good timing! This was much better with very thin, floppy crust, slightly sweet sauce, and stringy cheese. The crust was more tender rather than being crispy and the edges were better. Next time I think I'd ask 'em to singe the bottom for a little crispness.
