Mombar - Astoria Egyptian

Went to Mombar over the weekend. Nice little place.

The "host" and the chef are wonderful - super friendly, extremely nice and helpful.

The decor is beautiful inside - very eccelectic with it all being done by the chef. Even the beautifully designed tables were done by the chef.

Anyway, the food was pretty damn good.

I had the tasting menu - very informal, basically pick any 3 things on the menu. I had the assortment of dips (babaganuch, etc). All very tasty. Then I has the Mombar sausage - stuffed sausage, also very tasty. Finally, the lamb chop - very good as well.

The soup and clay pot chicken was also very good.

For dessert, ask for the "Chef's Surprise." VERY tasty dish, nothing too wild, but great.

Overall, very nice place, great people. I wish it was more busy, but it was only my party and 2 other couples. Definitely worth checking out.
