I guess they were pressured to update the look of the place since Mike's Pastry in the North End also did renovations. Very nice renovation and a nice area where you get to see the pastries now and nice new tables to sit at.
On the pastry front, they've also gotten more modern so I suspect they added a new pastry chef. Some of them tasted as good or better than the Flour ones and looked pretty fancy (not your average "home made" Italian desserts). E.g., there's the chocolate mousse pyramid w/ chocolate ganache on top w/ a chocolate coin w/ a design on the coin. There's the panna cotta w/ chocolate mousse on the top half w/ berries on top and a chocolate leaf w/ design on it similar to the other one. There's the thing that tastes like a chocolate tiramisu. There's a neopolitan-like thing (bomba?) w/ some chocolate mousse layers. Unfortunately, they didn't label any of these so I had to do the point thing, but they happily got them out when asked. And of course they still have the cannoli that they fill when you order it. My favorites were the panna cotta and pyramid.
Well worth another visit or two to get some of the other new items I haven't tried yet ;-)
p.s., the Phantom Gourmet was there filming so no doubt we'll see an episode on it soon...
