I had the pleasure of dining at Ruths Chris last week. I have always been a Ruths fan (I'm a sucker for the American way of cooking a steak), and was excited to hear they were opening in Calgary. I had read some so-so reviews when it first opened so decided to give them a few months to get the kinks worked out before I visited.
The service and food were impeccable. We each had a filet and shared 4 sides between the 4 of us (lyonaise potatoes, asparagus, onion rings and shoestring fries). The asparagus were cooked perfectly al dente and the onion rings were surprisingly great (I am usually not a fan). I didn't particularly like the fries, but the others at our table thought they were fine. I was dissapointed that they were out of Banana Cream pie but it gave me a chance to venture away and try something new. We had the cheesecake and bread pudding, both were fantastic.
I would say that the steak I had at Ruths, was second only to what you would find at Mastros/Ocean Club. Now if we could get an Ocean Club in Calgary, I would truly be in heaven....and I would save alot of money on my frequent flights to Phoenix.
