Before heading over to have needles stuck in me this morning (acupuncture), I stopped at the La Panzanella bakery at the corner of 14th and Union. I was hungry, and being 9 months pregnant, realized that if I waited to eat until after my appointment, I'd be a raving loony. So I perused their sandwich selections and, although I'd come in with meat in mind, found the Olivada most appealing. They started out with a round crusty delectable roll. Onto said roll they placed olive tapenade, feta cheese, spinach and tomatoes. So I ordered it and they grilled it. I sat outside and ate it and watched the traffic go by and mmmmmmed and ooooohhhhhed at the deliciousness of it all.
I've stopped by there more than once in recent weeks and ordered a cuppa tea and a cookie or a slice of bread and have been stuck by the simple, lovely flavors of their baked goods. If you're in that neighborhood and haven't gone there, get thee hence!! Oh, and there's lots of fabulous bread, too.
