Mixing Cold Cereals -- Yea or Nay?

and a few of the responses raised a good question for a mid-summer poll: Do you mix cereals?

I am a strict non-mixer. Too many bad things can happen once you pour in the milk.

I do that every time I have less than one bowl of one sorts; but I don't have colored cereals, so, the milk pretty much stay the same color.

NO to mixing - it's disgusting (to me) and makes me very angry. My dad is the biggest mixer of cereals in the world. I don't know how he manages to eat the mess.

I am a strict non-mixer, but I don't eat cereal that often. My husband, on the other hand, mixes Honey Nut Cheerios and Frosted Shredded Mini-Wheats. And he eats this combination every day. We go through these 2 cereals by the carload.

NEVER! i don't like having clashing flavors. My little brother mixes froot loops, lucky charms, honey nut cheerios and cinnamon toast crunch and it's just one big sugary mess. I'm perfectly content with my all-bran flakes, thank you very much.

I'm a mixer. Started with the kids as I only allowed sweet cereals if they mixed them 1:1 with a non-sweet cereal. I still prefer the mix.

Lot of folks seem to think that mixing cxereals means clashing flavors. CLashing flavors only happens if you mix the cereals haphazardly. It's just like cooking - don't mix seared tuna with gobs of sugar - it's common sense. I mix all the time - froot loops don't go with cinnamony cereals. Fruity pebbles and cocoa puffs - prolly not a good idea. Do ppl not get this? APple jacks and quaker 100% natural - prolly a good match, but too sweet.
Quaker 100% natural and grape nuts - probably a match made in heaven.
Frosted flakes are pretty nuetral outside of the sugar amount, they'd match up with any non-sweetened cereal, I'd bet.

Cinnamoin toast crunch - high on cinnamon and sugar - probably work well with a plain nuetral cereal - corn flakes, rice crispies, chex, etc.

Normally, I'll match flavor combos and then look into texture contrasts tot match a crunchy with a not so crunchy. 

Not sure how two matching cereals are "bad" just because they are eaten from the same bowl.

My combo is whatever high fiber thing I'm trying to get through mixed with good ol' reliable Grape Nuts Flakes. 1:1 Kashi Go Lean and Grape Nuts Flakes taste really good together and helps me overlook the 'twigs.' Growing up my friend had a 'tame' squirrel and when eating twigs I often think how I'd love to have a squirrel just to feed it the fiber-y bits I don't much care for. But by the time I've daydreamed my little woodlands at home scenario the bowl has been et and I am happily full and dare I say it again, fiber-y.

I used to mix cereal as a kid, but haven't mixed in a long time. This thread has me considering a cheerios/cap'n crunch combo. The cheerios would cut the sweetness of the cap'n and maybe reduce the damage to the roof of my mouth. For those with sogginess concern - I use a larger than necessary bowl and tilt it towards myself slightly while pushing the cereal back with the spoon. Then I can pull a little cereal at a time into the milk and the rest stays relatively sogg-free.

Some of the cereals that taste the best also COST the most... so to make them more practical I mix them with plain cheerios or plain rice bubbles or plain cornflakes (all store-brand and the cheapest I can get). And some cereals are just toooooooo sweet, so the plain cereal cuts the sugar content.

Fiber One and cheerios is a nice combination. So are cheerios and Kashi honey pillows. Almost any cereal can be blended except shredded wheat - that's not a breakfast, it's a punishment.

Yea!! As a college student, I often am faced in the dining halls with either extremely sugary or extremely bland cereal choices. I have come to enjoy regular cheerios with lucky charms, or wheaties with a bit of granola. At home, I mix all-natural, unsweetened kamut puffs with all sorts of things to "bulk it up".

Although, being a peanut butter lover, I have to say "Nay" to mixing reese's puffs with ANYTHING!! :)

I LOVE mixing cereals! I can't believe that people would actually be against it???
I do realize that some cereals hold up better/longer in milk than others, so my mix-in combos are tried and tested. I LOVE Nature's Path Cereals, and the fact that they come in Ecopacks make them slightly more affordable. I love the Flax Plus line of this brand, and they all hold up the same when milk is added to your cereal bowl, so go ahead and mix any of these together. Also, Nature's Path's Gluten Free/Wheat Free cereals are crunchier in general, so my favourite mix is usually: 1/3 cup Gluten Free Whole O's, 1/3 cup Heritage O's, 1/3 cup Millet Rice Flakes - Fruit Juice Sweetened (sometimes I add 1/3 cup of Gluten Free Corn Flakes - Fruit Juice sweetened to this as well, but these do gety soggy quick, so I do a search for them in my cereal bowl and eat em up while the rest are still "soaking").

My main reason for mixing is to get the best combination of healthy fats, good carbs, various grains (from the above mix of mine, you get Oats, Corn, Brown Rice, Millet, Buckwheat, Amaranth and Barley) and a good mix of various Proteins and Sugars. I don't think I can EVER go back to having just one type of cereal in my bowl - so blah!! Lol

I typically mix Mini Wheats (either Aldi or Kelloggs) with a Post shredded wheat biscuit. I find Mini Wheats alone are way too sweet, but simply adding sugar to unsweetened biscuits isn't quite the same. A further advantage is I can add a few Mini wheat biscuits for any remaining milk.

Yup! i make homemade granola with oats and almonds, i add store bought bran flakes and dried bananas or fruits
