mixer dilemma

sourdough | Jan 1, 2007 07:18 PM

Hi, We bake several loafs of sourdough bread daily. We purchased a Kitchen Aid pro 600 mixer thinking it would be tough enough to handle our baking needs. Sadly, that's not been the case. We replaced our first one after the first month. Now we are having similar problems. The motor over heats and the head wobbles. Our dough is heavy and this mixer is not able to handle the 9 cups of mostly whole wheat flour. Some have recommended a hobbart. Does anyone know if the Hobbart N50 is that much more powerful? We certainly don't want to go through another mixer and be let down again. What does it mean when the Hobbart says it is "gear driven"? Is the kitchen aid? The two mixers look very similar but KA doesn't say the amps or hp. Any advice would be well appreciated.
